Justice and Equality by *SaintIscariot Suggester says "It is a strong message of love and hate, 2 feelings so close but yet so opposite. It makes you think about it, and self reflect because everyone has had their love turned into hate at one time. Maybe now we can stop the turning and keep loving!"

"If love is a battlefield
Do we shoot to kill?
Or wade in what others
Do for a thrill?"

The Y has "soft light" lines in the background to illustrate the need to scratch (if you will) at the question of why and how did love become hate in certain aspects of society?

The O has been converted into a fish bowl to illustrate the instability born of this conditional love which rapidly approaches an intolerant hate. Lucidly speaking, fundamentalist religion measures love by conditions.

The U holds a quote from Jesus to his followers regarding judgement. The point was not against individuals judging between right and wrong, but rather condemning others based upon individual beliefs.

The R is backward to illustrate the reverse nature of the love in question.

The "IS H8" is formatted to illustrate the step down the love in question offers.

The "S" in "So" is backward to illustrate how I am moving in the opposite direction and headed upward and onward in life.

I want to also make it clear, the point of, "So I hate your love", is not emotional. Instead, I'm addressing an active way of being. As opposed to giving in to the emotions of hate bred by intolerance, I'm choosing to rise above and walk a different path. I'm defining love in terms of action versus inaction; not passions.

Definitely a good start with a strong message. I'm just not getting the message as clearly as you may like, perhaps. This is where a solid understanding of visual communication comes into play - if you take your artist's description away, would the viewer be able to understand everything you listed on his or her own?

I like the use of Baskerville here. The arrangement of the letters in "YOUR" and "IS H8" echo the "I Love NY" shirts a bit, which to me sort of commodifies the meaning of love. The use of the "textspeak" is maybe inappropriate here, mixing with the Biblical old-timey speak. Was there a particular reason why you chose to simplify "hate" to H8? I'm thinking maybe because 1. it has been referred to such in popular culture, or 2. it's easier to fit in the same arrangement as YOUR?"

However, the Caribbean Caps font is just... problematic. It's my personal opinion that it's just a really ugly font, which doesn't matter, but it definitely detracts from the piece as a whole. Vertical text is hard to read sometimes, even with short words, and is distracting here because of the strangely shaped serifs and the odd, uneven curves of the brackets. There are some great free fonts out there, but I don't think this is one of them. Just make sure you consider what connotation the overall shapes in the letterforms are sending. Baskerville's great because it's a classic serif font - the other font sort of mixes me up, though.

As for the fishbowl imagery, I really like it. The little (I don't know what else to call this) "Jesus fish" in the center ties everything together. Along with the crosses fading alongside the vertical "love," you subtly communicate the religious undertones in your position. The lower opacity text in the upper right and lower left works pretty well, I think, but if you're using that, I would make the "IS H8" text solid black instead of a gradient right now. It's beginning to mesh into that upper righthand text.

Overall, this isn't a bad piece. My advice as to helping it improve, though, is simply to think more about what each element in it means. What does it say to the viewer purely through looks? You have a wonderful idea and message here. Just hit it home by thinning some things out. Nice job!
